wifi enabled batteries

LIFX has rightfully been getting a lot of attention lately for their neat wifi controlled LED bulb. There’s a lot of info on their kickstarter page so I won’t repeat it here.

It just inspired a project that I’d love to see but won’t probably ever execute on myself.

I’d love to see a wifi enabled set of rechargeable batteries.

Basically, put the battery in whatever toy/device you have around the home. In an app, get a notification if the battery is running low. Turn the device on and off via that same app, etc…

Why yes, this is purely so I can scare/delight my kids by poltergeisting all their battery operated toys.

Add a small speaker to the battery for the fun of “haunting” the toy.  =D

she was disarming: Man disagrees with woman, makes game about punching her.

Looks like this Spurr’s 15 minutes are up and it’s sad knowing that everything he does in his life will be measured against “this”.

This is a thing that happened.

Helen Lewis wrote an article on the New Statesman yesterday on the online harassment experienced by Anita Sarkeesian, which I’ve been following for a while. To recap:

American blogger Anita Sarkeesian, who launched a Kickstarter programme to raise $6,000 to…

Earlier this year I bought a used Bridgestone 600 (1984 or thereabouts) to ease into skinny tire, multi-gear, drop bar cycling; I wanted something to wrench on.

I’ve spent the past few months and a couple hundred dollars cleaning and generally reviving the bike to a rideable and passably “original” condition.

My personality being what it is, I find myself wondering if I should forget authenticity and completely update the bike (700c wheels, new brake system, new drive train, powder coat, etc) or if I should just leave it as is, replacing bits as they break.

(yes, this post was an excuse to post pictures of some old steel)

Getting Out of the Game Center **Sandbox**

Beta tested an iOS game and got stuck in a sandbox mode on Game Center? I’m not sure that this will work for everyone, but I managed to resolve it by:

Settings > General > Profiles

Tap on profile, tap red button to delete. Launch Game Center, sign out, sign back in.

art evokes. art is discovery. art is the big picture. art is the smallest of details. the google art project is the sorely needed component… bringing it to the masses.

web.desktop.life: A JavaScript IDE for the iPhone

webdesktoplife:

I needed a way to write little programs on the iPhone and while C64 BASIC is neat, I forgot almost everything about it. I am actually pretty good at writing JavaScript code though. Executing javascript: URLs in safari is not a very comfortable solution. So I decided to write a little JavaScript…

Marco.org: Kindle 3 first impressions

marco:

I got a Kindle 3 for Instapaper testing. Impressions so far:

It is noticeably smaller and lighter than the Kindle 2, but it’s still the same size class. (The screen’s the same size, and it still has a keyboard, so there’s only so far they can go.) Most people who pick up a naked Kindle 3 for…
