Getting Out of the Game Center **Sandbox**
Beta tested an iOS game and got stuck in a sandbox mode on Game Center? I’m not sure that this will work for everyone, but I managed to resolve it by:
Settings > General > Profiles
Tap on profile, tap red button to delete. Launch Game Center, sign out, sign back in.

web.desktop.life: A JavaScript IDE for the iPhone →
webdesktoplife:
I needed a way to write little programs on the iPhone and while C64 BASIC is neat, I forgot almost everything about it. I am actually pretty good at writing JavaScript code though. Executing javascript: URLs in safari is not a very comfortable solution. So I decided to write a little JavaScript…

Marco.org: Kindle 3 first impressions →
marco:
I got a Kindle 3 for Instapaper testing. Impressions so far: It is noticeably smaller and lighter than the Kindle 2, but it’s still the same size class. (The screen’s the same size, and it still has a keyboard, so there’s only so far they can go.) Most people who pick up a naked Kindle 3 for…

Nice Idea, Poor Execution (a semi-rant)
Mint.com calls out the overpriced cable scam in an infographic on their blog. http://www.mint.com/blog/trends/the-rip1/
Consumer advice, great! The infographic, ugh.
I intended to go on about the inconsistency of font weight, the text overflow problems, the misspelling, the wrong punctuation and other esoteric design geekery, but lost steam when I remembered the post’s point.
And then,...

The Sometime Consequences of Smarter Machines
I bought coffee last night from the neighborhood Starbucks, and had the audacity to pay in cash. A few button presses later and the clerk hands back the same bill I just gave her as change. A few confusing moments later and I wind up with the proper amount of change which I promptly drop into the tip box.
Here’s a playback of what happened:

The Little Things
After initial problems with the Magic Mouse, I’ve come to absolutely love it.
I’ve had to replace the batteries for the first time today so when I opened it up, I found something else to geek out about:
The ID team at Apple placed little sleeves over the springs!
Now, I’m starting to eye all the other mice in the home (and at work) with a “must replace” stare.

CSS3 (an Expansion Pack)
I like to think of programming/scripting languages as video games.
While I’m pretty much a n00b (let’s be honest here, most programming languages are still in the shrink wrap for me), I’ve unlocked most of CSS2. I mean, I’m hardly ready for ladder play, but I can hold my own (IE6 quirks is an optional side quest I don’t mind slogging through, mostly).
So the CSS3...
Are you there Blizzard? A Prayer.
It’s not the Lord’s Prayer I pray:
Our fathers who art in Irvine, hallowed be thy game. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, I shall pit Zerg against the Terran.
Give me a key, I sincerely plead, to playtest the Starcraft 2 beta. As I try the new units I swear to report, and not fall to the temptation, of posting a torr’nt.
For thine game is divine, and a commercial...

Apple's Window
Like many people, at first glance, the thick bezel around the iPad was off putting. In terms of usability, I understand the need for that amount of buffer space (so the fingers you use to hold the iPad don’t interfere with the interactions on screen). Still, I couldn’t help but wish it was just a little bit thinner all around, until I noticed something.
The homescreen shows an OSX...
Now, what to call it?
iPod, iPhone…
I like the “Canvas” guesses, but iCanvas doesn’t really fit in terms of the naming/branding logic (see previous post “Apple iNameTBD, a Love Letter”)
Maybe the iPalette? no, doesn’t have the nice two syllable structure. iPal? No, too cute…

Dear Flash
I think we need to talk.
When we first met, you showed me things I’d never seen before. I’ve grown with you, because of you. I’ll always cherish our time together, but…
I’m ready to move on, and it’s not me, it’s you.

Apple iNameTBD, a Love Letter
There’s plenty of speculation about what Apple’s take on a tablet device is going to be. So for no other reason than I want to get this “down”, I’ll add my two cents to the cheap anonymous ‘net.
It’s the software (but you knew that)
Multi-touch is nice and all, but one take away from any handheld device not called iPhone (Android, Blackberry, Palm,...
L4D2 and Christian America
Playing Left 4 Dead 2 had me wondering if anyone had mapped the mentions of zombies in entertainment against the calls to be “more christian” by political figures or the talking heads of news media.
Seems that both christianity and the living dead are becoming more and more popular lately.
I’m realizing it makes perfect sense considering jesus is sort of a zombie.

The zombie is giving me a look that almost fools me into believing she’s alive.
Almost.
She can blink all she wants. I still can’t see any spark of life in those eyes. There might be air being sucked in or blown out through those parted lips, but it’s not a sign that she’s breathing.
I check to see...
